Extreme Sailing - America's Cup 2013

The America's Cup Race in 2013 will be all about speed, excitement, thrills on the water as two ultra-technical catamarans battle for the honors on San Francisco Bay in September 2013. To see a preview of what's in store, The Sailing Foundation presents Extreme Sailing - America's Cup 2013 on Saturday, February 25, 2012 in downtown Seattle. John Craig, Principal Race Officer for The America's Cup and Stan Honey, Director of Technology for The America's Cup will be featured at an exciting, informative evening event. Locals will remember John Craig as the sailing coach in Vancouver BC who went on to coach the Canadian Olympic team. He has been race manager at St. Francis YC for more than 10 years. Sports enthusiasts will recognize Stan Honey for his contribution to enhanced TV coverage of football, baseball, and now sailing events. He is noted for his significant sailing achievements including Rolex Yachtsman of the Year and winning navigator on many raceboats including ABN-AMRO and Groupama 3's record-breaking circumnavigations. Click here for Stan's resume - and here for John's.

We'll hear how the design of the coming America's Cup race will kick up the tempo for sailing races in several aspects:
     - Much faster -- more action
     - Close to shore
     - Better graphics in video presentation for both viewers and judges
Learn how these efforts can affect the sport of sailing in the future.
